Rio 2016: Sky Scholar Olivia Breen is voted second in Sportswoman of the Month for June - Sky Sports

Sky Scholar Olivia Breen has been given a timely boost ahead of Rio after coming second in the Sportswoman of the Month vote.

Manchester City striker Nikita Parris was unveiled as the winner on SSNHQ on Tuesday morning but it was a stunning effort by two Sky Academy Sports Scholarswho made the shortlist in June.

Boxer Savannah Marshall was in the running after her fine run at the World Championships as she booked her spot at Brazil.

But Breen was delighted to have come so close to being named top Sportswoman in SSNHQ's vote for June.

The multi-eventer, part of the 4x100m relay team that won gold for GB at the IPC European Championships in Italy, said: "It was totally unexpected and I am so grateful and touched to all those who took the time to vote for me.

"Training is going really well. I had a really good but annoying day at Newham on Sunday. I ran the best I have ever ran but sadly it was into a strong headwind which always slows your time down.

"However, I know how fast I can run and I am determined to improve my ranking before the selection date.

"It is now countdown to selection for Rio which is on July 25 - the day before my birthday! I have a few more competitions between then and now and will also be at the Anniversary Games in the 100m on July 23.

"It's going to be really busy time for me but I'm so excited at everything going on right now."
